FATHER BRIAN WARCHOLA Father Brian is a 29 year old newly ordained priest journeying from his Somerset County town of Central City to his new residence at 500 N. Julian St. in Ebensburg PA. His seminary formation was experienced at St. Vincent’s in Latrobe PA. Our Holy Name School children are well acquainted with Fr. Warchola. These children have been praying for Fr. Brian throughout the last four years of his educational and spiritual formation. During these years, as a seminarian, he had visited our parish school on numerous occasions. He is already highly respected by Principal, Faculty, as well as students enrolled at Holy Name. Holy Name Parish is blessed with his priestly presence among us; his assignment officially begins on November 7th. Please pray for his spiritual satisfaction and enrichment in his years among us as well as his personal happiness. SCHOOL CHOICE - EITC BILL ADDITIONS First, let me say that money is not the total answer which is needed to improve education. Mr. Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO, who recently died, stated that "The best thing our educational system could ever do is to go to a full voucher system." The State Senate this past week passed an educational voucher system which initially will address the poorest families in the cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The Senate Bill has a graduated clause which would then make children of higher income families eligible to apply for a school voucher. We know the absolute need for the opportunity of intellectual formation in the realm of spiritual values. The classroom has the unique advantage of sharing these spiritual insights to our younger children whose parents cannot monetarily afford to enroll their children in any private or parochial school. School choice empowers parents to be able to have some control over their children’s education. It is known as a documented fact that children transferred to a private school under the voucher system improve significantly better in all areas of academics. The PA House of Representatives now is called to accountability to pass additions to the Educational Improvement Tax Credit. ALL SAINTS' DAY - NOV. 1ST On the feast of All Saints' we celebrate the lives of all the holy people who ever lived on earth and are now happy with God in heaven. We celebrate not only those proclaimed to be saints by Holy Mother Church but also those whose sanctity was not even suspected. All the saints had to struggle with sin and weakness as we do. With God's grace they won the battle and so can we. The prayers and readings for this feast emphasize the four last things, which are, HEAVEN, HELL, DEATH and JUDGEMENT. May we all pass from the Eucharistic table, at which we are pilgrims, to the heavenly banquet. All Saints’ Day is a Holy Day of Obligation this year; Mass times are: 8:00AM, 9:00AM, Noon, 3:45PM & 7:00 PM. CCD ALLS SAINTS DAY MASS A special Mass honoring the Saints will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 1 at 3:45PM at Holy Name Church. Elementary CCD students will participate at this Mass. All are invited to attend. DISMISSAL: Grade 6 at 4:30PM from Church; grades 3, 4 & 5 from the Church Hall and Grades 1 & 2 from the Classrooms. NO PUBLIC ADORATION THIS TUESDAY Please note: due to the Holy Day Masses this Tuesday, Public Adoration will not be held. Adoration will resume next Tuesday, 8:30-10:00AM. ALL SOULS’ DAY November 2nd, All Souls’ Day, and in fact the entire month of November, have been designated by Catholics as a time of prayer for those who have died. The tradition of special remembrance of the dead is rooted in our belief that the dead will rise again and that all of us will be reunited in the Lord "so in Christ all will come to life again" (Cor. 15,22). The priests of Holy Name will remember at all Masses during the month of November family members, relatives and friends who have departed from this life. The names of these individuals should be listed on the envelope provided to you in the current packet of church envelopes and returned immediately to the rectory. NOVEMBER 2: MASS OF REMEMBRANCE All Souls Day: 7PM Mass, Wed. Nov. 2. All our deceased relatives and friends will be remembered, especially the names of those who died in the past year. A reception will follow in the Narthex. Extended family members and friends are most welcome to attend. COPING WITH GRIEF AND THE HOLIDAYS Monday, November 7, at 7 pm in the Church Hall. This program includes a video "A Ray of Hope" with helpful suggestions for dealing with the Holidays at a time of personal grief and loss. Please call Sr. Margie to register: 472-8315.HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS With the change of the weather, it is anticipated that additional parishioners may require home visits from parish priests and Eucharistic ministers during the winter months. Please contact the rectory office (472-7244) if a family member desires this worthy service. STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE - CHILDREN AND MONEY Too often we fail to understand that Christian instruction about money is one of the best opportunities we have to teach our children about God’s love for us, and his ownership of all things. The way we use money is the extension of our personal characteristics. By teaching our children the Christian use of money, affording them control of money and the need to make decisions about money, we also confront them with the meaning of discipleship and Christian Stewardship.
