YEAR FOR PRIESTS
November 2nd we celebrate the feast of All Souls Day. St. Paul told the
Christian community of Corinth, “If our hopes in Christ are limited to this life
only, we are the most pitiable of men.” It would do violence to our own emotions
not to grieve for our deceased priests who have served our spiritual needs over
the course of their priestly lives. Christian life is incomplete without death.
Our deceased priests are now complete Christians. They worked hard to build the
Kingdom of God. They worked so untiringly for truth, for life, for justice, for
peace, for joy and for love. In the charity of our hearts let us pray for all
the deceased diocesan priests who have served this diocese since its
establishment in 1906. May eternal peace be theirs forever. Continue to pray for
future vocations to the diocesan priesthood.
ALL SAINTS' DAY - NOV. 1ST
On the feast of All Saints' we celebrate the lives of all the holy people who
ever lived on earth and are now happy with God in heaven. We celebrate not only
those proclaimed to be saints by Holy Mother Church but also those whose
sanctity was not even suspected. All the saints had to struggle with sin and
weakness as we do. With God's grace they won the battle and so can we.
The prayers and readings for this feast emphasize the four last things, which
are, HEAVEN, HELL, DEATH and JUDGEMENT. May we all pass from the Eucharistic
table, at which we are pilgrims, to the heavenly banquet.
ALL SOULS’ DAY
November 2nd, All Souls’ Day, and in fact the entire month of November, have
been designated by Catholics as a time of prayer for those who have died. The
tradition of special remembrance of the dead is rooted in our belief that the
dead will rise again and that all of us will be reunited in the Lord “so in
Christ all will come to life again” (Cor. 15,22).
The priests of Holy Name will remember at all Masses during the month of
November family members, relatives and friends who have departed from this life.
The names of these individuals should be listed on the envelope provided to you
in the current packet of church envelopes and returned by October 31st.
LISTS POSTER FOR NOV 2nd MASS OF REMEMBRANCE
Please check lists on bulletin boards to be sure the name/s of your deceased
loved ones are included for the Mass of Remembrance Mon, Nov.2 at 7PM. If the
parishioner or immediate relative (mother/father, child, brother/sister) died in
the past year (Oct.08-Nov 09, their names will be read during the Prayers of the
Faithful.
HAITI DVD
The Haiti DVD has been completed and we are in the process of reproducing
copies. In the meantime, parishioners can access a shorter version of this DVD
(uploaded to YouTube) by going to our website, www.holynameebg.org and clicking
the link or directing at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xca0ZBVLnco.

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS ENROLLMENT CEREMONY - OCTOBER 29, 2009
The First Holy Communion Class and their families will participate in an
Enrollment Ceremony to be held Thursday, October 29 at 5:30PM in the church. A
family style covered dish dinner will be held in the church hall at 6:00 PM
following the prayer service. Please take your covered dish to the church hall
prior to the start of the ceremony. The ceremony and dinner are to enroll the
children for the preparation for the sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist
through the prayerful support of their families, teachers, and parish family.
PRO-LIFE PRAYER BREAKFAST
Citizens Concerned for Human Life will be holding a “Respect Life Prayer
Breakfast” on October 31, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church Hall in
Ebensburg. We are very pleased to have as our speaker this year Sean O’Hare.
Sean is a young, dynamic speaker and entrepreneur. He has founded and owns
multiple businesses. He is also the founder and president of LifeHQ.org, which
seeks to use technology and the media to promote, educate and inform others
about life from conception to natural death. Young and old alike, we all need to
learn how to use technology and media to promote the culture of life. Tickets
for the breakfast are $7.00, advance sale only. Tickets available at the
rectory.
OCTOBER - MONTH OF ROSARY
If all the facts could be written about the blessings which have come to mankind
through the centuries as a result of the Rosary, I suspect many libraries would
have to be devoted exclusively to such writings. God alone knows what to us are
the countless extraordinary favors given to those who implored Mary’s help
through the Rosary. Favors abound each moment of the day upon individuals
praying their Rosaries to seek assistance from Mary, Queen of the Rosary. Mary,
our spiritual Mother will not fail to give ear to the precious persistence of
her children when they devoutly recite her rosary.
The rosary honors the greatest woman the world has ever known, or ever will.
That alone should be sufficient reason for reciting this simple and sublime
prayer often, even daily. But strange to say, through the recitation of the
rosary, WE, not Mary, are the biggest beneficiaries.
HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS
With the change of the weather, it is anticipated that additional parishioners
may require home visits from parish priests and Eucharistic ministers during the
winter months. Please contact the rectory office (472-7244) if a family member
desires this worthy service.

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL IN NEED OF BLANKETS
With the cold weather upon us, the St. Vincent dePaul Society has an urgent need
for blankets to distribute to those in need of our area. Blanket donations can
be dropped off at the SVDP Depot located in the Ebensburg Mini-Mall, Tuesdays
thru Saturdays 10AM-Noon.
HOLIDAY FOOD BAGS
The St. Vincent dePaul Ebensburg Food Pantry will be distributing food bags at

an envelope with $5.00 in it to help defray the cost of the turkeys. We have
more families receiving food this year because of current economic difficulties.
Your caring for them with your generosity and prayers is greatly appreciated.
May Our Lord bless you for your support in this endeavor.
LIFELINES
Every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. The conviction
that human life is sacred and that each person has inherent dignity that must be
respected in society lies at the heart of Catholic social teaching. Calls to
advance human rights are illusions if the right to life itself is subject to
attack. We believe that every human life is sacred from conception to natural
death; that people are more important than things; and that the measure of every
institution is whether or not it enhances the life and dignity of the human
person. (U.S. Bishops: Faithful Citizenship - Civil Responsibility for a New
Millennium, 1999).
ANNUAL MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT
Today is the last Sunday a count of all worshipers attending Mass at Holy Name
will be taken. The count will take place simultaneous to the offertory
collection. The average for the four weeks will indicate the percentage of our
total parish membership attending Mass regularly. That statistic will be
compared with the results of the counts in the previous years. The final
tabulations will be published in a future publication of this bulletin.
STEWARDSHIP OF TIME - GOD CALLS US INTO COMMUNITY
God has given us many gifts and calls us to use those gifts to build up his
kingdom. Our faith identifies us as stewards and gives us a relationship with
God. Many of these gifts are given for our needs; others are given for the needs
of others. Stewardship of time is a ministry by which we nurture and share our
gifts.
