BULLETIN NEWS
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Today is World Mission Sunday. We are called to this Eucharistic Celebration - along with Catholics in every parish, chapel and church throughout the world - to recommit ourselves to the call we heard at Baptism, to share our faith, to be missionaries. Let us pray for all who long to hear the hope-filled, life-giving message of Jesus’ love and salvation. Let us offer generous financial help to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in support of the service of priests, religious and lay catechists in more than 1,150 local churches throughout Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America.

PRO-LIFE PRAYER BREAKFAST
Citizens Concerned for Human Life will be holding a “Respect Life Prayer Breakfast” on October 31, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church Hall in Ebensburg. We are very pleased to have as our speaker this year Sean O’Hare. Sean is a young, dynamic speaker and entrepreneur. He has founded and owns multiple businesses. He is also the founder and president of LifeHQ.org, which seeks to use technology and the media to promote, educate and inform others about life from conception to natural death. Young and old alike, we all need to learn how to use technology and media to promote the culture of life. Tickets for the breakfast are $7.00, advance sale only. Tickets available at the rectory.

OCTOBER - MONTH OF ROSARY
If all the facts could be written about the blessings which have come to mankind through the centuries as a result of the Rosary, I suspect many libraries would have to be devoted exclusively to such writings. God alone knows what to us are the countless extraordinary favors given to those who implored Mary’s help through the Rosary. Favors abound each moment of the day upon individuals praying their Rosaries to seek assistance from Mary, Queen of the Rosary. Mary, our spiritual Mother will not fail to give ear to the precious persistence of her children when they devoutly recite her rosary.
The rosary honors the greatest woman the world has ever known, or ever will. That alone should be sufficient reason for reciting this simple and sublime prayer often, even daily. But strange to say, through the recitation of the rosary, WE, not Mary, are the biggest beneficiaries.

YEAR FOR PRIESTS
At his ordination the diocesan priest promises obedience to the bishop and his successors. The newly ordained throws in his lot with the diocese for better or for worse just as the bride and groom do when they received the sacrament of marriage. The shortage of vocations to the sacrament of priestly ordination could have its rootedness in the skepticism of parents resulting from the scandals in our church during the past quarter century. The esteem, love and respect for priests doesn’t seem to be of the high quality that was evident twenty, thirty or forty years ago. The answer to the shortage still comes from the domestic church (that is, the home). The answer to this shortage is not to bring in priests from other countries. Truly, Catholics have a right to the sacraments. As the shortage of priests becomes more acute, I can only answer that God must have some different plan for the future of His Church. Priests will be an integral part of that divine plan however it might be shaped. Please continue daily to pray for additional priestly vocations.

CONFIRMATION INFORMATION SESSIONS - FRESHMEN AND JUNIORS - OCTOBER 18TH
The Junior Information Session will be held on today, October 18th at 5:30PM in the church hall. SPONSORS MUST ATTEND WITH THE JUNIOR CANDIDATES. We will be handing out packets which detail sponsor responsibilities and explain the one-on-one meetings that will occur. The first one-on-one meeting will occur at this Session. IF YOU HAVE NOT TURNED IN YOUR CONFIRMATION REGISTRATION FORM, IT IS OVERDUE. It needs to be turned in NOW with the required documentation attached.
The Freshman Information Session will be held on today, October 18th at 7:00 PM in the church hall. We will be going over the Confirmation formation process. FRESHMAN CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES AND PARENTS MUST ATTEND.

ALL SOULS’ DAY
November 2nd, All Souls’ Day, and in fact the entire month of November, have been designated by Catholics as a time of prayer for those who have died. The tradition of special remembrance of the dead is rooted in our belief that the dead will rise again and that all of us will be reunited in the Lord “so in Christ all will come to life again” (Cor. 15,22).
The priests of Holy Name will remember at all Masses during the month of November family members, relatives and friends who have departed from this life. The names of these individuals should be listed on the envelope provided to you in the current packet of church envelopes and returned by October 31st.

HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS
With the change of the weather, it is anticipated that additional parishioners may require home visits from parish priests and Eucharistic ministers during the winter months. Please contact the rectory office (472-7244) if a family member desires this worthy service.

PARISH HAITI COMMITTEE
The inaugural meeting of the Holy Name Parish Haiti Committee was held on Monday, Oct. 5. The meeting was productive and informative, and served to lay a solid foundation for the future of this new group. The main topic of discussion centered around the issues and benefits of creating a “tourism” program for parishioners to travel to Haiti to see firsthand the challenges faced by the peasants there, and to witness the progress being made in addressing them. The group decided at this time to assess the level of interest in such a program by asking parishioners to indicate their desire to participate in an eventual tour. As of now, there is no specific schedule to begin the tours, but it is envisioned that trips would last from 5 to 7 days. Cost is yet to be determined. Parishioners should keep in mind that this in no way could be considered as “luxury travel”, and is more akin to “roughing it” as one would on a traditional camping trip. If you have interest in traveling to Haiti in the coming years, please complete the form below and submit it in the offertory or drop it off at the rectory. Please note that Indication of interest is not a commitment of any kind on your part. The next meeting of the Parish Haiti Committee has been scheduled for Monday, November 9 at 6pm in the rectory, and new members are always welcome.

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL IN NEED OF BLANKETS

LIFELINES
More people than ever are coming forward to talk about how they regret having an abortion. Here are some quotes from actual testimonies, provided by a national research project:

• “It affected my relationship with my children because I emotionally pushed them away - I felt I didn’t deserve them.”
• “I would go to the cemetery wondering what they did with my baby.”
• “Initially I also felt a sense of relief that it was all over. But it was a strange brand of relief that did everything relief should, except make me feel any better.”

If you need help, call 1-800-5-WE-CARE (National Office of Post-abortion Reconciliation and Healing).

ANNUAL MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT
For the following two Sundays, October 18 & 25 a count of all worshipers attending Mass at Holy Name will be taken. The count will take place simultaneous to the offertory collection. The average for the four weeks will indicate the percentage of our total parish membership attending Mass regularly. That statistic will be compared with the results of the counts in the previous years. The final tabulations will be published in a future publication of this bulletin.

CLEANING CEMETERY GROUNDS
If you would like to retain temporary decorations and plantings, please remove and take them home prior to October 31st.

ANGEL FUND NEEDS
Catholic education remains such a vital part of the spiritual life of Holy Name Parish. It remains the highest budget item which requires financial attention and daily concern. Financial support is a necessity from varied sources, namely, parents, parishes, fund raisers, endowment contributions, death remembrances as well as specific scholarship support. For example, the tuition responsibility per child is $900.00. There are families who find it beyond their financial means to honor a $100.00 per month payment for their children. Parishioners who could make a contribution, regardless of the amount, toward a scholarship consideration would be prayerfully and gratefully appreciated.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME - GIFTS TO BE SHARED
We are all stewards of the mysteries of God and disciples of Jesus Christ. God has given us gifts which are to be shared with others in the practical application of discipleship and stewardship to which all are called. All Christians are invited to share in the apostolate of Christian education, realizing that time is one means of responding to God’s call to stewardship.
