BULLETIN NEWS

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $89,918.00
Thank you to all who have participated in the Annual Catholic Appeal. To date, parishioners have generously donated $30,742.80, or 34%, toward our parish goal of $89,918.00. Please prayerfully consider supporting both our Diocesan ministries and our parish. If you do not have a pledge card, you may mail your gift (made payable to Annual Catholic Appeal) directly to the parish office. We wish each family to be sensitized to the fact that the diocese assessed $63.10 to each household. That accounts for Holy Name’s total assessment of $89,918.00. Those parishioners who could donate $100.00 or more would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you for your generous support and return your pledge card at your earliest convenience. Extra ACA envelopes can be found in the pews of the church.

SOLEMNITY OF THE HOLY TRINITY
Believe that you can enter into a personal relationship with each of the Divine Persons and make this profound mystery come alive in your daily lives.
To the Father we ascribe works of power and speak of Him as the Author of Creation. He not only created us and keeps us in existence by His creative act which is continuous, but also re-created us by sending His only-begotten Son into the world.
To the Son we assign our redemption, since He alone became incarnate - He alone lived, suffered, died, rose and ascended, because He alone became man.
To the Spirit we attribute the divine blessings we receive, whether from the Mass, the Sacraments, through prayer or good works. We ascribe these to the Spirit, since He is the mutual love of the Father and Son, and divine blessings are gifts of love.

FESTIVAL NEWS
1. NEEDED: NAMES OF ALL FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS
Yes, all of us are aware that the great event for this parish, its Annual Festival, is five weeks away. Certainly not too early for chairpersons of the various concessions to be finalizing their lists of workers. THESE NAMES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE RECTORY OFFICE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 23RD so that the Sunday bulletin of June 1st will carry the completed committee slates of names and hours of assignment.
2. BASKET COMMITTEE UPDATE
This up date MUST be prefaced with a Thank You to all those parishioners who have already contributed to the Basket Committee. We are hard at work collecting baskets and various items to make baskets, and, cataloguing what we have already received. A reminder to everyone donating a completed basket to make a listing of items contained in the basket; and, if you want a particular name on the basket, include that with your list. Another big help would be to get the baskets in early due to the amount of work we have to do to ready everything. Set up of our tent will be on the Thursday before the festival. The "basket house" is still the home of Herm and Nancy Clauto at 609 E. Sample Street (472-6038) Again, Thank You for your donations to date, but we do have a way to go.
3. RIDE TICKETS
Advance sale available both at Holy Name School and the rectory. Advance sales price is $10.00 for a strip of 5 tickets. Please note that tickets on the grounds will cost $2.50 per ticket. The Saturday Matinee price with unlimited riding from Noon-5:00PM is $10.00 (matinee to be purchased on the grounds that Saturday afternoon).
4. FESTIVAL PRIZES AND FLEA MARKET ITEMS
We are still accepting items for the Flea Market. No stuffed animals, clothes or straw baskets. NEW prizes also needed for the Pick-A-Prize Booth, for men/women/boys/girls. Mark boxes and drop them off in the Church Library Room. Thank you so much!
5. TURKEYS
Always appreciated are the donations of turkeys. Please consider the donation of a turkey for the Festival dinner. We suggest that you bring donations to the Church Cafeteria Mon-Fri from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
6. RAFFLE
Any senior citizen willing to sit and sell raffle chances for a few hours at the Ebensburg malls, grocery stores, Bingo or booth at the Festival should contact Jim Arnone at 472-9566; extra books of chances are available to any parishioner at the rectory. Let the secretary know if you need an extra book or two. Please return your sold books of chances to the rectory at your earliest convenience.
7. CALLING COMMITTEE
Each year parishioners receive a call asking for the consideration of an item needed for the serving of 3000 dinners or the outside food concession stands. Please be cooperative and supportive.
8. HIGH SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
Any high school student who would like to obtain service hours by working at the Festival Dinners is asked to call Karen Hurtack (472-6218) or Mary Lynn Stephens (472-7054).

SIX PRECEPTS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
1. To assist at Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of obligation.
2. To fast and to abstain on the days appointed.
3. To confess our sins at least once a year.
4. To receive Holy Communion during the Easter time.
5. To contribute to the support of the Church.
6. To observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
For one full year, at the end of each weekend Mass, we as a congregation prayed for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Church’s life and ministry. I ask all parishioners when at Mass, in particular, to pray for more vibrant and life-giving vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

A QUOTE FROM PADRE PIO
Humility and purity are wings which carry us to God and make us almost divine. Remember: that a bad man who is ashamed of the wrong things he is doing, is nearer to God than a good man who blushes at doing the right thing.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE - PROPER VALUES
Jesus does not condemn money in itself, but neither does he uphold material wealth as an ultimate goal in itself. He wants us to learn to value things rightly, understanding that our lives are transitory and short, and that our goal should not be wealth and security here and now, but the eclipsing wealth of eternal life with him.

POLITICAL ARENA
Regarding the individual Catholic’s role in the political arena, the church teaches that all citizens should take an active part in public life. Shrugging cynically and strolling away from any involvement is not a proper response for a follower of Jesus Christ.

OUR LADY'S MONTH
The month of May has always and ever awakened in the hearts of Catholic women and men something beautiful and sublime. Even nature bursts forth in bloom having relaxed its cold grasp upon the forces within its bosom to give new life and beauty to the world about us.
There seems to be a rejuvenation or spirit with us and as though we were little children again, in our spiritual lives, we turn to our Mother. We pray fervently that this blessed month will lift our hearts and thoughts to her who is our great Mediatrix before the throne of God.
Catholics give Mary a place as God himself has given to her beyond and above all created individuals because she was chosen by God to be without sin. She was the instrument by which Christ became human.
That is why we honor our Blessed Lady! This is why we are so devotionally proud of her! She was one of us and in her we are all exalted and lifted up because she who was of the human family was without sin. So then we ask you to join with us in the glorious Marian hymns during the month of May, filling our souls with love for her who is "our fallen nature's solitary boast." In honoring her we come closer to Jesus, Her Divine Son, our God and Risen Savior.

CATHOLIC MEN’S CONFERENCE - “ANSWER THE CALL” 2008
The 12th Catholic Men's Conference will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Saint Francis University. Speakers include Alex Jones, Peter Herbeck, and Father Timothy Harris. Confessions at Noon, preceded with a Penance Service from Father David Peles. Lunch at Tovarian Hall is included. Mass at 4:00 PM, Father Anthony Legarsky, celebrant. For more information go to our website www.thecallpa.org or call Tom Deskevich at 472-5903.
CATHOLIC MENS CONFERENCE BROCHURES CAN BE FOUND IN TODAY’S BULLETIN; please take a movement to look over the brochure. Coming off a very successful Mission, the men of Holy Name should be looking for ways to grow further in their faith. It takes a big commitment to give a whole day up in the summer to grow in your faith. I am asking that you make that commitment. If you never have attended the Catholic Men's Conference before, please consider making that commitment this year.

IN DEFENSE OF CATHOLIC SEXUAL ETHICS
Sexual license - the very opposite of what the Catholic Church teaches - kills. It kills psychologically, socially, spiritually and physically. For instance, the reason why legions of heterosexuals and homosexuals wind up with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) is because they don’t value restraint. As a result, some die young, which explains the funerals.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR WILL - IS MY WILL UP-TO-DATE?
This is an important question because many people have a will tucked away someplace, a will that is so outdated as to be practically useless. In fact, an out-of-date will can actually cause more problems for your loved ones than not having a will at all. Tax laws change and the size and extent of your assets may have changed as well. Updating your will allows you to take advantage of recent tax developments and new techniques in estate planning. Might Holy Name Church be included in your will?

PARISH COUNCIL REVIEWS SURVEY
Monday night the Parish Council met together with Msgr. Gaus to begin serious analysis of the many excellent suggestions submitted through the recent parish survey. Thank you to all who gave such prayerful thought to the questionnaire. Parish committees will continue the process of working with the suggestions in the weeks and months ahead.
