BULLETIN NEWS

HOLY NAME CHURCH 1
47TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL
JUNE 6-7-8
One of the Main features of our 47th Annual Festival is the Big Money Raffle. We place the responsibility on each family belonging to Holy Name Parish to return at least one $20.00 book of chances. This unique feature will cement the success of the Annual Festival if each family cooperates. The drawing for over $4,000 in prize money is scheduled for 10:00 PM next Sunday. Please return all raffle tickets to the booth at the festival or in the collection basket next weekend.

DINNERS:
Our parish stands on its fine record of both generous portions of fine food and excellent service. Publicize and patronize the dinners. On Friday FISH DINNERS (FRIED AND BAKED) will be served from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Adults $8.00, children $4.00. Accommodations for "take-outs" of the fish and turkey dinners have been made. Those buying take out dinners will use the same tunnel entrance as used by all other dinner patrons but will be ushered into a separate line, once inside the hall. TURKEY DINNERS will be served Sunday from 11:30 AM until 6:00 PM, and HAM DINNERS from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Adults $7.00, children $3.50. PLAN TO BRING THE FAMILY! Tickets may be purchased at the door for all dinners.

BAKED GOODS:
The supply and variety of baked goods continues to grow. For baked goods and candy "like momma used to make", be sure to stop in the special pastry room. Those donating baked goods are to bring these items to the school at these times: Fri. after 11:30 AM, Sat. after 11:30 AM, Sun. anytime until Noon. Special features will be homemade noodles, homemade candy, sticky buns and cinnamon rolls. Saturday pre-orders are to be picked up in the church cafeteria from 8:30-10:00AM or in the Baked Goods room after 10:00AM.

DINING ROOM
: All persons of the Kitchen and Dining Room Committee are requested to report to the cafeteria no later than one-half hour before the scheduled serving time. Many individuals are needed in the Kitchen and Dining Room to allow for a quick and smooth serving procedure.

SET-UP
: Volunteer workers -- as many as possible -- are needed to help set-up for the Festival on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, June 4 & 5, beginning at 6:30 PM. ALL Chairpersons are to be present Thursday evening to assure that all materials needed for the 3-day operation of their concessions are on site.

HOURS
: Friday 5:00 PM to closing, Saturday Noon to closing, Sunday Noon to Closing. Children’s Matinee begins at Noon on Saturday.

UNDERSTANDING
: With an Annual Festival the size and magnitude of our Holy Name event, it is most probable that several or perhaps many names of volunteers have been omitted. We ask Chair people to inform us of our oversights with the possibility of additional names being listed in the bulletin following the Festival.

RIDES:
Bartlebaugh Rides from State College will be featured at our annual Festival. This company will bring both adult and children's rides. Advance sale of ride tickets is being handled at the rectory office at $10.00 for a strip of five tickets during office hours from 8:30AM to 4:00PM. Advance sales end at Noon on Friday. During the Festival each ride will be priced at $2.50. A special Matinee is scheduled from Noon to 5 PM on Saturday. For $10.00 children can ride unlimitedly.

DONATED FOOD
: Parishioners sharing in the Calling Committee activities are to bring donated food commodities to the Church Hall on June 3, 4, 5 & 6 before 4:00 PM.

RAFFLE
: extra books of chances are available at the rectory. Let the secretary know if you need an extra book or two. Return sold raffle books of chances to the rectory during this week or to the Raffle Booth at the Festival.

FRUIT DONATIONS/CUTTING
: Anyone wishing to donate fruit (watermelons, cantelope, strawberries or grapes) for the Fruit Cup Booth is asked to drop off their donations in the church hall before June 5th. Anyone wishing to help cut fruit is asked to come to the Faculty Dining Room in the Church Hall on Thursday evening at 7:00PM.

REFRESHMENT STAND/CUTTING OF PEPPERS AND ONIONS
- anyone interested in helping to cut up the peppers and onions for the refreshment stand are asked to report to the church hall on Thursday evening at 6:00PM.

BASKET COMMITTEE NEWS
- The parishioners of Holy Name will be astounded when they see the over 125 baskets we currently have! They are SPECTACULAR! Please have any baskets in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can complete all of the work necessary to prepare them for display. Chances will again this year be 3 for $1.00, 15 for $5.00 and 40 for $10.00. The chances will be sold until 7PM Sunday evening of the festival, after which the tent will be closed. The committee will them select someone from the crowd to pick the winners whose names will be posted by 9PM outside the tent. This is being done to maintain order and so the committee can complete the huge job of selecting and notifying winners. The Wheelbarrow of Cheer chances will be $1.00 each for at least 150 to 200 dollars of "spirits". We are certain that everyone will be amazed at this effort, which we have all of the parishioners of this parish to THANK!

SPECIAL FESTIVAL BAKE SALE
On Saturday of the Festival parishioners will be able to purchase baked goods and noodles pre-ordered through the form below. It is our way of saying to you that your order will be filled with items baked during the night and early that morning. You are encouraged to avail yourselves of this convenience. Return the form to the rectory NO LATER THAN JUNE 1ST. Payment is made on the day of pickup, namely Saturday, June 7th. ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $89,918.00
Thank you to all who have participated in the Annual Catholic Appeal. To date, parishioners have generously donated $43,933.26, or 49%, toward our parish goal of $89,918.00. Please prayerfully consider supporting both our Diocesan ministries and our parish. If you do not have a pledge card, you may mail your gift (made payable to Annual Catholic Appeal) directly to the parish office. We wish each family to be sensitized to the fact that the diocese assessed $63.10 to each household. That accounts for Holy Name’s total assessment of $89,918.00. Those parishioners who could donate $100.00 or more would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you for your generous support and return your pledge card at your earliest convenience. Extra ACA envelopes can be found in the pews of the church.

DIVORCED FROM REALITY
In a world where marriage seems less binding than a cell phone contract, it's no surprise that divorce tops the list as the most "morally acceptable act" in Gallup's annual "Cultural Tolerance" survey. More Americans consider divorce acceptable (70 percent) than ever before, say researchers, who asked 1,000 people to rank 16 social taboos. The percentage of respondents who have no ethical qualms about ending their vows has jumped 11 percent in the last seven years. To give an indication of how inured society is to family breakdown, more people would condemn buying or wearing fur (39 percent) than filing for divorce (22 percent). Although young people held marriage to a higher standard in previous surveys, this poll showed that the value of the institution is eroding quickly in the next generation. If the country can't understand the importance of marriage, then how will we preserve it? This is why the Family Research Council is committed to changing public policy and public opinion on marriage. It continues to push for programs that would strengthen our unions and give couples the incentive to devote themselves to marriage, something this poll shows we desperately need.

IN DEFENSE OF CATHOLIC SEXUAL ETHICS
The reason we have AIDS, and other STDs, is because we have made restraint a dirty word. So instead of telling people to slam on their brakes, we counsel research, technology and education. Never mind that all three have proven to be a monumental failure, and that only a return to Catholic sexual ethics will save us from ourselves. Our society appears to have learned absolutely nothing.

DOES MY WILL REPRESENT MY WISHES?
Your family situation may have changed over the years so that you no longer have dependents at home. Perhaps your estate has grown beyond your earlier estimates. Maybe you’ve changed your mind about some of your bequests. The more time that passes and the more changes that occur in your life, the more you should consider bringing your will “up to speed.” Please consider your home parish in your will.

LITURGICAL REFLECTION

The Church is a holy people, a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a people set apart whose members give thanks to God and offer the sacrifice of Christ. Together, they take part in the liturgy conscious of what they are doing, with reverence and full involvement. At each Mass the Church recalls the paschal mystery, the suffering, death, resurrection and the return of the Lord in glory at the end of time. The dying and rising of Jesus Christ is at the heart of each liturgical gathering. We die with the Lord and we rise with him in our daily pilgrimage to the kingdom of God.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE - GIVING ON PURPOSE
We have all heard the saying, “Give until it hurts.” Too often, we assume giving will hurt. So, we procrastinate. When we finally “get around to giving,” we do so timidly, fearful it will impoverish us. We rarely experience the joy of giving. Yet Jesus says: “There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.” (Acts 20:35). Stewardship calls us to plan our giving; giving the first portion of our income, not the last.
