CITIZENS CONCERNED FOR HUMAN LIFE (CCHL) THANK YOU
The Citizens Concerned for Human Life, Cambria/Somerset Chapter would like to
acknowledge and thank all who contributed donations and/or helped in any way
with the Yellow Ribbon Campaign. This is the organization’s main fund raiser and
contributions go toward educational materials, literature given out at the
County Fairs and on the March For Life buses from this area, and other
worthwhile purposes.
This year on January 22 we mark the 35th anniversary of the infamous Roe vs.
Wade ruling of the Supreme Court. This ruling legalized abortion in all 50
states. The companion ruling of Doe vs. Bolten, legalized abortion through all 9
months of pregnancy. It is estimated that 48 million lives have fallen victim to
this tragic, erroneous ruling of the Supreme Court. We as Catholic believe all
Life, all holiness comes from God, the Creator. Please pray and do all in your
power to correct the abortion ruling, to bring about a renewed respect for human
life in our society, from the very moment of conception until natural death.
PRO-LIFE PRAYER
God of all goodness, you have entrusted us with the gift of life. Help us to
appreciate that gift from the first moments of conception to the last breaths of
old age. Send your strength to all those who defend the unborn, the weak, and
the dying against attempts to cut short their lives. May your Holy Spirit touch
the hearts of those who are tempted to choose the way of death rather than life.
Grant that your people may always be a sign of your love in the world. Amen.
God’s love does not
distinguish between the infant in the mother’s womb
or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person.
In each one God sees His image and likeness.
Human life is a manifestation of God and His glory.
-Pope Benedict XVI
PARISH FINANCES - STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
When you think about your financial commitment, do you think in terms of “how
much is the church budget?” Or do you think in terms of how many blessings the
Lord has showered on your life and the privilege of saying “thank you” through
your financial response to the Church’s work?
Holy Name Church, because of its size, always experiences a proportionate
increase in all of its financial commitments, when compared with the smaller
parishes. Our parish endowments, based upon the sluggish economy, have taken a
severe hit the first six months of this fiscal year. The responsible management
of our parish depends more heavily upon the weekly consistency of your
contributions rather than the uncertainty of the stock market. The realization
of satisfying the monthly budget involving salaries for school personnel and
others, utilities, supplies, etc. etc. etc. depends upon the ongoing generosity
of concerned parishioners.
An invitation is extended for additional members of Holy Name to include Holy
Name Church in their Last Wills. Such benefactors have in mind the establishment
of a secure future financial base for this most venerable parish.
FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
All parishioners who have shared their finances with Holy Name Parish during
this past calendar year should have received through the mail this past week a
financial statement of their contributions. Call the parish secretary if your
statement has not arrived by the early part of the week.
FESTIVAL NOODLE MAKING DATES
Volunteers in great number are needed for noodle making for the following
Wednesdays: February 20, March 12 & 26, April 9 & 23 at 8:30AM in the church
hall. Early bird helpers welcome after 7:00 AM. No experience is needed. Come
for all or part of the day. Free lunch. Noodles bagged at 8:30 AM on Fridays.
GRATITUDE FOR A GENEROUS CHRISTMAS COLLECTION
Contributions to date to the parish’s Christmas Collection have amounted to
$40,991.07. Prayerful gratitude is extended to our parishioners for their
generous outpouring of financial assistance to this special appeal. You are to
be commended as sincere stewards of treasure!!!

CAN YOU HELP US? STEWARDSHIP OF CLEANING THE CHURCH
Holy Name Church has always been kept clean and beautiful, a source of pride to
parishioners and cause for positive compliments from visitors. We do not expend
funds on professional cleaning agencies. Our church is cleaned and maintained by
a dedicated crew of men and women who sweep and dust, scrub and polish every
Thursday at 8:45AM . With many hands, this labor of love takes about an hour.
Can you help? Even 1 or 2 weeks a month? This simple task of cleaning God’s
House is a service of great importance. To volunteer call Lois Krug or Sr.Margie
472-8315.
PARISH MISSION: FR. JIM SICHKO RETURNS!

pews three years ago, delivering a humorous yet inspiring and challenging
message that appealed to young and old alike. What an excellent opportunity to
continue our celebration of the Easter Season, with socials following every

FEBRUARY - CATHOLIC PRESS MONTH - $10.00 CONTRIBUTION
A catholic newspaper can be the most effective form of diocesan-wide
evangelization available. There we expect to find comments on Scripture,
articles by bishops giving the official teaching of the Church, stories of papal
trips bringing attention to social justice issues throughout the world, etc.,
etc., etc. Holy Name parishioners are requested to read the Catholic Register
and prayerfully find articles there which expose them to clear, concise
application of Christ's teaching and which might also dispel some of the
confusion among Catholics rather than sustain it. Please use the envelope found
in the February packet to make your $10.00 contribution in support of publishing
Catholic teachings and news for this area of the church.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. Can I afford to send my children to Bishop Carroll?
Yes! Over 80% of our families receive financial assistance through grants
offered by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and the generous donations of
alumni, friends and community partners.
2. What long term benefits will by children have from attending Bishop Carroll?
Students are given the opportunity to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ through
an excellent religious education program. The financial costs for Bishop Carroll
are also outweighed by the amount students earn in scholarship money from
various organizations and universities.
3. Why would we choose to send our child to Bishop Carroll?
“One reason that we chose Bishop Carroll was because of the small, close,
family-like atmosphere. But more importantly, we wanted to have the presence of
Christ in our children’s lives daily.”
