BULLETIN NEWS
FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD
People in the Old Testament knew that water was both death dealing and life giving. Death during the flood in Genesis. Life from a rock in the desert in Exodus. The difference between the two is enormously important and significant. The difference was the Spirit.
John the Baptist said "I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." And this is what happened when John baptized Christ, namely, the heavens were opened and the Spirit, like a dove, descended on Him.
In Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist we receive the Holy Spirit and then in union with Christ our challenge is to let the Spirit flow to others. United with Christ as we are doesn't necessarily make life easy. In fact much of the time it will be difficult. Like Jesus, baptized in the Spirit, we must also experience passion and death as well as resurrection. Let that Spirit give us the strength and conviction to be true to our baptismal promises.

ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This week the parishioners of Holy Name will receive a letter indicating financial donations to church and our Haitian Twin Parish. Any errors found on one’s financial statement should be reported to the parish secretary.
A word of profound prayerful gratitude for the outstanding generosity of the vast majority of parishioners of Holy Name.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE -AN OFFERING OR A TIP?
God comes first, not last. Otherwise, we give Him only the leftovers after we have made sure that we have provided for our own comforts. The principle of sacrificial giving is that our giving to God comes off the top of all that He has given us. Otherwise, some would say it is not a true offering, just a tip left at the table. Pray to be enabled to give generously.

THE STEWARDSHIP OF CLEANING THE CHURCH: WE NEED MORE HELP
Holy Name Church has always been kept clean and beautiful, a source of pride to parishioners and cause for positive and complimentary comments from visitors. We do not expend funds on professional cleaning agencies. Our church is cleaned and maintained by a dedicated crew of men and women who sweep and dust, scrub and polish every Thursday morning at 8:45AM . With many hands, this labor of love takes about an hour. Can you help? Even one or two weeks a month? This simple task of cleaning the House of God is a service of great importance. To volunteer or for more information, please call Lois Krug or Sr. Margie as soon as possible.

FEBRUARY - CATHOLIC PRESS MONTH - $10.00 CONTRIBUTION
A catholic newspaper can be the most effective form of diocesan-wide evangelization available. There we expect to find comments on Scripture, articles by bishops giving the official teaching of the Church, stories of papal trips bringing attention to social justice issues throughout the world, etc., etc., etc. Holy Name parishioners are requested to read the Catholic Register and prayerfully find articles there which expose them to clear, concise application of Christ's teaching and which might also dispel some of the confusion among Catholics rather than sustain it. Please use the envelope found in the February packet to make your $10.00 contribution in support of publishing Catholic teachings and news for this area of the church.

MORE FAMILIES NEEDED FOR OFFERTORY PROCESSION
The Offertory Procession and presentation of the gifts of bread and wine is an essential part of the Mass. Presenting these gifts to the priest, as well as bringing forth the collection basket, symbolizes the offering of ourselves and all we are to the Lord. It shows our desire to be transformed with the gifts of bread and wine at this Eucharist, that we may become the Body of Christ. We need more families to participate as Gift Bearers in the Offertory Procession at our weekend Masses. Please consider this act of service to your parish, and call Sr. Margie soon to volunteer.

PARISH MISSION: FR. JIM SICHKO RETURNS!

FESTIVAL NEWS
Five (5) more months till that first weekend in June! Certainly time to start to think about as well as start to put together a basket for the festival! How about any Christmas gifts that you really don't need and can't return. How about a basket built around the item. Re-gift? Nothing wrong with re-gifting to a basket that will ultimately benefit the church! How about a Christmas decoration basket; or, with February coming up, a Valentine's basket. Whatever you can think of will be GREATLY appreciated by the Basket Committee. Once again this year, the Clauto’s home will be the hub of the baskets. Remember, five months will fly by!!!

Celebration: In two weeks we will begin our annual observance of Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme, “Catholic Schools Light the Way,” combines the concepts of God’s light in the world and the light of knowledge we strive to kindle in our students. The theme represents the special role of Catholic schools and teachers in lighting the way through a faith-based education that supports the whole child in learning about and leading a fulfilled life. Our students, in turn, will “light the way” to a brighter future through leadership in their communities, church, businesses and families.

Scrip: Scrip will continue to be sold in the Narthex on Sundays. Scrip program now includes Walmart cards. Scrip cards may also be purchased in the school office during school hours.
