COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Any Catholic individual searching for a way to better prepare for Christmas
doesn’t need to look any further than the parish confessional room. Do you want
to find peace? Do you want to grow spiritually? You are nervous because it has
been a long time since you have been to confession. Respond to the movement of
the Spirit within yourself and take the plunge. Don’t worry about what to say or
how to say it. You already know the manner in which you have displeased God by
your lifestyle. Mention those sins and request forgiveness. Holy Name carries
the reputation of strongly promoting the sacrament of forgiveness. Trust in
God’s mercy even if you haven’t been to confession in 4, 7, 10 or 15 years. Come
home to a loving Father waiting to forgive you. The Advent Adult Penance Service
is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 22nd at 7:00 PM.
ADVENT CONFESSIONS
As much as we strive for perfection, the known reality within each of us readily
admits to a state of sinfulness. To prepare properly for the coming of Christ at
Christmas requires spiritual conversion to His Gospel values. Confessing of sin
is integral to the conversion. The priests assigned to Holy Name will be hearing
confessions every Wednesday and Saturday at the regular scheduled hours. The
last week of Advent, confessions will be heard after each weekday Mass. In
addition, grade school CCD students will have the opportunity for the Sacrament
of Reconciliation on Tues., Dec. 15th at 3:00 PM; this also includes those
students in 7th & 8th grade; Holy Name school students on Wed., Dec. 16th at
10:30 AM; and the Parish Penance Service is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 22nd at
7:00 PM. High school students will have the availability for this Sacrament on a
given Sunday morning. Watching and preparing for the Coming of the Lord - become
part of the spiritual process.
SUGGESTED CHRISTMAS GENEROSITY OF $40.00
It is not too early to pray over one's Christmas stewardship to God and Holy
Name as we budget expenditures on gifts for both family members and friends at
this time of year. How senseless to exclude a generous gift to the Church
founded by Christ, who from all eternity planned this mystery of salvation
history. Indeed the Christmas story has touched our lives dramatically, allowing
ourselves to be called not only His disciples but indeed His adopted sisters and
brothers and heirs of His heavenly home.
We requested over the course of many, many years a minimum donation of $35.00 to
your venerable parish at Christmas. There are many parishioners capable of
donating $40.00 or above the suggested donation. We anticipate their response to
this Christmas Appeal to be based upon their ability to share more. Permit your
2009 Christmas Gift to Holy Name to be an unselfish one, coming from the heart
of a committed steward.
YEAR FOR PRIESTS
Once a priest, always a priest. When a man is ordained a priest, an indelible
spiritual character is placed on his soul. The vocation and mission he receives
at Ordination mark him permanently. If just reasons exist, a priest can be
discharged from his priestly functions, but he cannot become a layman again.
Once a priest, always a priest.
CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA - GIVE “THE GIFT OF HOPE”
Can’t find just the right thing for that special someone? Tired of searching
endlessly for a present for the person who already seems to have everything? Why
not try something different this year, and give The Gift of Hope, the
newly-produced DVD that describes the wonderful things that are happening in
Haiti as a result of our Kindred Journey charity. Instead of buying a
traditional material gift, we suggest that you consider a donation to Kindred
Journey in the name of a special friend or family member – and we will be happy
to provide you with a free copy of “The Gift of Hope” DVD that you can wrap up
and mail or present to them, so that they can see with their own eyes exactly
how their gift will be put to good use to better the lives of Haiti’s poor. No
trouble guessing on the color, size or style – this gift would be truly
appreciated by virtually anyone, and could even be passed on to others on down
the line. What a wonderful Christmas it could be!
NATIVITY DISPLAY- COME AND SEE!
The annual Nativity Display and Family Social is this Sunday afternoon 2- 4 PM.

can be dropped off in the Church Library or Hall. Thank you!
STEWARDSHIP OF TIME - AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE
Time is a gift from God that the Lord has sown in our community. God enriches
our individual lives and our community life with this gift. Consider what you
may be able to offer in the way of time. Share your unique gift.

LIFELINES
“The Gospel of Life must be proclaimed, and human life defended, in all places
and all times. The arena for moral responsibility includes not only the halls of
government, but the voting booth as well. Laws that permit abortion, euthanasia
and assisted suicide are profoundly unjust, and we should work peacefully and
tirelessly to oppose and change them. Because they are unjust they cannot bind
citizens in conscience, be supported, acquiesced in, or recognized as valid.”
(US Bishops, Living the Gospel Life, 1998, n. 33).

LITURGICAL REFLECTION - ROMAN MISSAL
This Advent Sunday is named Gaudete Sunday. This word translated from Latin into
English means Rejoice. The tone of this Sunday’s Mass is joyful expectation for

the third edition of the Roman Missal. Once there is the approval by the Holy
See with the consensus of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, the
third edition of the Roman Missal will become available. It is important that we
