ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $89,918.00
Today is Commitment Sunday of the Annual Catholic Appeal. This is our “Annual
Catholic Opportunity” for building up God’s kingdom through the two dozen
ministries of our Local Church. The Goal this year has been assigned to your
parish based upon a $63.10 per household assessment. Our goal this year is to
achieve participation from every parishioner Your participation is vital to the
success of the ACA not only for these ministries, but for our own parish as
well. Please make a gift that reflects your gratitude for God’s incredible
blessings. Join me in returning your completed pledge card by placing it in
today’s collection. If you are unable to make a financial gift, please return
your pledge card indicating that; we will see that you do not receive a second
request.
FESTIVAL NEWS
1. NEEDED: NAMES OF ALL FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS
Yes, all of us are aware that the great event for this parish, its Annual
Festival, is eight weeks away. Certainly not too early for chairpersons of the
various concessions to be finalizing their lists of workers. THESE NAMES MUST BE
SUBMITTED TO THE RECTORY OFFICE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 23RD so that the
Sunday bulletin of June 1st will carry the completed committee slates of names
and hours of assignment.
2. BASKET NEWS - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We now have 30 baskets and/or commitments for baskets for the Festival! Our goal
is 150 so we have a way to go, but we are confident we will make it with YOUR
HELP! Donations can be in the form of a completed theme basket; items to be used
to complete a basket, or a monetary donation for the committee to complete a
basket. All donations should be dropped off at the home of Herm and Nancy Clauto
at 609 E. Sample Street, Ebensburg (please call before dropping off 472-6038).
If someone needs a basket picked up, call the Clautos’ for arrangements. For
anyone donating a completed theme basket, we are asking that you make a LIST OF
ARTICLES in the basket to avoid the necessity of tearing the basket down and
redoing it a second time. HELP US REACH THE GOAL OF 150 BASKETS SO THIS CAN BE A
VERY SUCCESSFUL FESTIVAL!! Thank you. The Basket Girls

PARISH MISSION SURVEY
The Parish Council will distribute a survey during the Parish Mission.
Prayerfully consider your personal suggestions for future planning which would
help strengthen the spiritual life and activity of our parish family. Reflect on
evangelization, outreach, liturgy, spiritual enrichment, APEX High School youth
activities, Young Children’s activities, the social life of the parish, special
needs groups, reading materials and all other aspects of community life here at
Holy Name. What are we missing? What needs improvement? We want to follow the
Spirit’s lead into the future. A Prayer to the Holy Spirit will be used each
evening as part of the Mission.
NEED TO VOTE
Spring Election is two days away. I trust that you will vote according to your
conscience. The Catholic Church has an obligation to help you form your
conscience according to her teachings. Your vote should flow from your most
deeply held convictions. The church never imposes, she only proposes.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches: “Conscience MUST be informed and
moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It
formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good
willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is
indispensable for human beings who are subject to negative influences and
tempted to sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative
teachings.”
Vote on Tuesday. Always be mindful of the moral urgency of promoting the culture
of life. Abortion is intrinsically evil. Know those candidates who are pro-death
of children in the womb. They don’t merit your vote based upon your
well-informed moral conscience.
YOUR EASTER GENEROSITY TO HOLY NAME
Holy Name Parish is the third largest parish in our diocese. It’s budget
therefore is a challenging one. We are most grateful and prayerfully
appreciative for your sensitivity to the ever present demands in satisfying
financial responsibilities to all creditors. You can understand my pastoral
gratitude for your exceptional generosity to Holy Name this Easter, amounting to
$41,874.70. May your stewardship of treasure continue to be a blessing for this
venerable parish of Holy Name.
STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE - NAMING DISCIPLESHIP
We are to share generously. Our ways of sharing affect our inner disposition. A
disciple can be identified by viewing his/her check stubs and calendar - true
indications of his/her value system, of how money and time are used. Our Lord
takes what we are willing to share and multiplies it, as the loaves and the
fishes, for the benefit of others.

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS
Next Sunday, our parish will be taking up a collection for the Catholic Home
Missions Appeal. This Appeal supports missions here in the United States. The
Appeal offers Catholics across our country a wonderful opportunity to help
fellow Catholics practice their faith in such rugged areas as Alaska,
Appalachia, the Deep South, the Rocky Mountain states, the Southwest, Puerto
Rico, and island dioceses in the Pacific and Carribean. This Appeal is a
practical way for our parish to share its faith and resources with the mission
Church here at home. Over 95 cents of every dollar donated to the Appeal goes
directly to the missions to keep church doors open, to support pastors in their
priestly ministry, and to provide basic pastoral services like religious
education for children. Please give generously to assist fellows Catholics here
in America. It’s one practical way our parish community can be good stewards of
God’s gifts and make a difference. An envelope for this Appeal can be found in
your April packet.
